Taking on the care of a loved one is a major ordeal, and can be taxing on both the mind and body. In fact, anxiety is common among those who act as caregiver for a parent, spouse, child or other loved one.

Many caregivers find it difficult to ask for help when they’re feeling overwhelmed with the task of caring for a loved one. Anxiety can often completely consume the body, leading to frequent sickness, fatigue, headaches, nausea and other symptoms of stress.

If you are a caregiver and notice that you are feeling anxious, exhausted, overwhelmed or agitated on a more frequent basis, you may be at risk for caregiver burnout. Here are some steps to take to avoid this feeling and manage your stress levels.

    1. Bring In Help

You don’t need to bear the responsibility of caring for your loved one alone. Talk to other family and friends to discuss divvying up responsibilities. Even if someone can only step in once or twice a week, this will greatly reduce the amount of stress on your shoulders and give you time to yourself.

You should also consider hiring in-home care in Philadelphia in order to provide your loved ones with the attention they need. These professionals will take care of everything from helping run errands to maintaining the home, with a schedule that suits your needs and schedule.

    1. Make Time For Yourself

Never neglect the most important person in your life – yourself. If you’re stressed or not feeling your best, you won’t be able to provide adequate care for your loved one. Try taking at least two nights off a week to do something for your own enjoyment. Go on date night with your partner, catch a movie with friends or spend time vegging out on the couch. Whatever you do, make sure it enables you to unwind on focus on your own health and wellbeing.

    1. Exercise Regularly & Eat Well

Regular exercise will help boost your mood and force you to focus on yourself for a short period of time. You’ll also benefit from increased energy levels and better sleep. Pair this healthy habit with an improved diet and plenty of fresh water. By focusing on your health, you’ll be able to keep your brain sharp and functioning properly. Having an exercise regimen will also give you time to yourself each day.
